Born on May 19, 1839 in the small community of Genêts, France on the English Channel, Adolphe Alexandre Lesrel grew up within sight of Mont-St.-Michel, that mysterious abbey constructed in 708 when the archangel Michael reportedly appeared to Bishop Aubert of Avranches, and instructed him to build a church on the isolated rocky island.
